Cranc.

A Catalan, an Englishman, a British-Cypriot-South African, and a Mexican form a post-punk band in Barcelona.

The musical endeavours of my first year in the Mediterranean city consisted mostly of buying a Spanish guitar and writing sad songs in my living room. The next year, having decided to stay for a couple more years, I realized I missed playing with people. Drums seemed like too much of a mission living in a Barcelona apartment, so I welcomed an excuse to buy one of my dream basses, a Japanese Fender Mustang. With my main weapon in hand, I started asking around for people looking for musicians.

Cranc, which is Catalan for “crab”, was a duo when I first met Darren and Guillem. They needed a drummer and a bassist. I auditioned for both spots, but they saw right through me— while I like to tinker around with any instrument I can get my hands on, at the end of the day, I’m a bassist.

They shared demos of songs they had recorded as far back as the pandemic, and having enlisted Max, a true drummer, we started reworking them into the album we recently recorded.

Our first single, “Something Don’t Feel Right,” was released in the Summer of 2025. More singles will follow until the album is out. For now, we did a mini tour between Barcelona and England, and more shows are in the works.

The first single artwork features a portrait of yours truly, oil-painted by Darren Loucaides and intervened by Macarena Anaya.
